is the process of cultural change in an individual. The processresults from mixing of various norms and practices from differentcultures, which results in a person having differences of opinionfrom the original belief. has also led to psychologicaldevelopment since an individual meets with various characters whohave different perspectives and different levels of reasoning.Usually, there is dominance over another culture which makes a personchange the political views, customs, and also the social life andinstitutions. Ethnocentrism is the act of making judgments on someother cultural practices. The primary elements for judging anindividual include religion, behaviors, customs, and religiouspractices among others (Duma,Raluca Estera. Pp 4).The ethnic divisions are often linked with adverse outcomes as someraces perceive to be superior to others. Globalization is the processthrough which businesses and beliefs start having internationalinfluence. People start conducting their trade internationally.Individuals from different ethnic backgrounds in the whole worldstart exchanging views, products, ideas or another cultural exerciseat the international level. The process has been aided by theexistence of modern technology (Duma,Estera. Pp 6).
,ethnocentrism, and globalization are related in that there is anelement which is considered to be at a risk of diminishing. There isa dominance factor in the three definitions. In acculturation, thereexists a culture which is dominant over the other that makes anindividual abandon the primary culture and adopts other beliefs.Additionally, in ethnocentrism, there is a culture which isconsidered to be superior over another. It involves giving an adversejudgment on another culture. On the other hand, globalization createsa threat to retailer dealers in domestic markets. Hence, theuniversal method of operating makes local products have less demand, hence creating a threat to such goods.
Ethnocentrismmakes some of the powerful states to look down upon the developingcountries. The powerful states, specifically the United States andthe Western nations view the non-industrialized countries as inferiorto them. They consider some of the ethnic practices as inferior andof the past. The powerful countries have also indulged in the affairsof other states. Ethnocentrism also made it possible for the imperialcolonialism as the European countries viewed the colonies havinginferior cultures.
Globalizationis the expansion of trade at international levels. The primary reasonfor increased globalization is the advancements of technology. Thebenefits linked to globalization include diversity in the productsproduced. Some regions can now access the products which they do notproduce. It has also resulted in cultural diversity as peopleexchange different cultures. Globalization has also led to increasedindustrialization, with rural areas developing at a higher rate. However, there are disadvantages which result from globalization(Duma,Raluca Estera. Pp 8).It has increased inequality between the industrialized andnon-industrialized states. Also, the global commerce is dominated byprivate corporations whose primary aim is maximizing profits and notmaking the life of individual better. Globalization has also resultedin decreased environment quality with increased global warming.Environmental degradation results from the rising demand for theproducts as the market enlarges. Producers opt to use modernscientific methods such as greenhouse farming to increase the outputresulting in environmental pollution (Duma,Raluca Estera. Pp 8).
Inconclusion, acculturation and globalization have led to some positiveattributes. Although there are adverse consequences of thesepractices, the results are more beneficial. The world has adoptedalmost a single culture which has increased integration amongindividuals.
