BUSINESS ETHICS 6
Identifyingthe Moral and Ethical Issues
Theuse of social media platforms has had unprecedented implications onthe people`s personal and work life (Reamer, 2013). In most cases, people cannot conceal their identity since they are usually connectedand followed by many others worldwide. Social media platforms havebecome an avenue for information dissemination even to unintendedpeople. For instance, when a person posts a personal photo onFacebook, it receives views across the world, and that could be usedto harm his/her reputation by people with ill-intentions. Businesseshave also suffered the same consequences through the propagation offalse information by competition as pertains to the quality ofproducts or services offered.
Thefact that technology has become part of us have been detrimental tothe lives of people who get attracted by the many applications thatcomes with various gadgets. The fervently attractive features thatencompass phones and computers have taken a toll order on the livesof many people in the sense that they take most of their timedownloading images and videos. Many people hardly put down theirgadgets, thereby finding little or no time to attend to the mostimportant issues. They get carried away and fail to meet theirexpectations as far as productivity at work is concerned. Theobsession is also common in the social media platforms, wherebypeople spend most of their time chatting with family and friends, thereby compromising the roles that are bestowed upon them in theirworkplaces.
Manysocial media sites and apps have been used by organizations tomislead the customers about the quality and prices of variousproducts. Growth hacking, when misused can be a platform throughwhich business perpetuated false information to the customers abouttheir products. This is usually the case when profit maximizationbecomes the top priority for most businesses. For instance, the foodindustry has been able to hook many consumers on foods which aredestructive to their health. It is unethical for businesses to focuson selfish gains at the expense of consumers who are convinced to buylow-quality products through growth hacking.
Analyzingthe Options to the Ethical Issues Identified
EncouragingPeople to Maintain Confidentiality
Intrusioninto important information belonging to organizations and individualshas been a serious ethical issue. It is necessary, therefore, forpeople to be advised on the importance of withholding confidentialinformation. This implies that people should restrict themselves fromsharing information and photos online to bar ill-intentionedindividuals from using it for unethical reasons. In so doing, theharm caused to organizations or individuals would eventually come toa halt.
EmployeesShould Be Loyal and Obedience
Fororganizations to realize the profits over a period of time of time,it is critical that they should encourage employees to uphold properethical values and avoid wasting time precious time attending topersonal issues. It is paramount that employees be loyal and committhemselves to the growth of their respective organizations.Essentially, spending too much time on social media platforms makes aperson less effective. Therefore, this should be avoided byencouraging employees to focus on the very instrumental aspects. Inso doing, they would cease from spending most of their time online, and focus on increasing productivity.
BusinessesShould Prioritize the Well-Being of Consumers
Itis the fundamental role of business to ensure that they give value toconsumers as opposed to maximizing the level of profitability.Customers are a valuable aspect of every organization, and theyshould be given priority before anything else. Selling them qualityproducts at relatively fair prices boosts the image of the business, thereby making them change their perception. Primarily, failure tooffer customers value and focusing on increasing sales would haveserious ramifications on the business in the long-run.
Evaluationof the arguments for each option using an ethical framework/lens
Maintainingconfidentiality and privacy would ensure that the employees and otherstakeholders command respect from others. They should also restrainthemselves from accessing information belonging to other people, andavoid infringing on their inherent rights. In so doing, people wouldstart appreciating the ethical diversity.
Beingloyal and obedience to the management is critical as far as therights and responsibilities lens is concerned. It is imperative foremployees to be responsible in their roles to ensure that theymaintain ethical values, as stated by Pozgar (2016). As such, theycan contribute immensely to the growth of organization since theywould have a positive attitude towards their work.
Fromthe perspective of reputation lens, it is critical for the businessesto put more emphasis on improving their services to the consumers. Itwould not be ethical if the organizations aim at increasing saleswhile destroying their reputation through being unfair to theconsumers. Therefore, the primary concern for businesses should beensuring that customers are satisfied with the quality of products orservices.
Recommendationsbased upon ethical reasoning
Ethicsis an important aspect of every organization and it the duty ofleaders to ensure that they are responsible to the society. Everyonein an organization should act in a manner that depicts properunderstanding of ethical values. Everyone must respect and treat eachother fairly so that working environment can be favorable for all.Customers must also be treated with the dignity that they deserve, toenhance the image and reputation of the business. No organization canthrive without prioritizing ethics in all its operations, and it is,therefore, fundamental for leaders and employees to be ethical in allaspects.
