TheKaiser Permanente started its operations in 1938. Currently, theentity operates as Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) with over8.3 million members. The organization has outlets in seven regions inthe United States. KP has 28 local and 12 international unions. Theentity has a network of functional units that include NationalWorkforce Planning and Development, Unit-based teams, and NationalInnovations Network (Pittman & Scully-Russ, 2016).
TheKaiser Permanente is undergoing significant operational changes. Theorganization has witnessed dramatic growth in Southern Californiaregion. The Perform, Grow and Lead strategy aims at transformingservice delivery to meet clients’ needs. The Vision 2025 planfocuses on using modern technology to meet changes in clients’needs. The Reimagining Ambulatory Design also revolves arounddesigning a new ambulatory care delivery model. The organization hasadopted the workforce planning and development strategy to advanceemployees’ competencies.
Thearticle explores the implementation of the United States’Affordable Care Act. The implementation process has forced healthcaresystems to adopt significant changes in their operations andworkforce. The identified changes have led to the adoption of newworkforce planning process. The article uses in-depth interviews andcase studies to examine the dynamic process of interaction in theUnited States’ healthcare systems. The study findings revealsignificant changes in the workforce and organizations’commitments. Therefore, the article concludes that ACA has compelledhealthcare systems to be complex and large.
Sofar, multiple drivers facilitate the identified changes. Convenienceis a top priority for healthcare organizations. Affordability driversupports the reduction of the treatment cost. Value driver ensuresthat clients acquire high-quality services in the healthcare systemat relatively low cost.
ApplyingProcess of Change Theories
Thesystems theory is largely applicable in the article. The systemtheory highlights the significant of offering safe and qualityhealthcare services to patients. Besides, the article reveals thesignificant of making notable changes to offer quality services topatients. Ideally, the article has identified drivers of change asconvenience, affordability, and value. The identified drivers aresignificant in defining the quality of service delivery in the modernhealthcare facilities (Chuang& Inder, 2015).
Therefore,systems theory is relevant to the article since its support changesthat emerge due to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Thetheory indicates that quality services and patients’ safety are keyproperties of the entire healthcare system. Therefore, changessupport the improvement of the healthcare outcomes. Transformation inthe modern healthcare facilities also revolves around the systematicdevelopment of the whole system to improve the treatment outcomes.
Thetheory also supports the development of integrative research modelsthat enhance quality measurement and accreditation. The theory alsocoincides with the US Affordable Care Act’s aim of supportingresearch and development to improve the quality of service delivery.In most instances, the need for quality service delivery requires thetransformation in the leadership styles (Cordon,2013).Therefore, the theory defines the need to adopt advanced strategicresearch planning to improve the quality of services in the entirehealthcare system. The research also affirms the significant ofimproving the workforce skills and capacity. The advancement ofworkforce skills facilitates the improvement of services offered topatients. Therefore, the system theory is relevant in theimplementation of the Affordable Care Act.
