CRITICAL REFLECTION QUESTIONS 4
Effective communication can only occur when certain barriers areabsent. The presence of such obstacles will significantly inhibitsuccessful or effective communication. Oftentimes, the same barriersthat affect effective communication between individuals can quicklyaffect communication between people and God (Geisler & Nix,2014). However, it is essential to note most of the factors thatinfluence effective communication between people cannot affectcommunication with God.
Attitude can affect communication between people. When one party tothe communication is angry, anxious, or depressed, communication willbe affected. Further, the religious faith that a person subscribes tocan affect communication (Geisler & Nix, 2014). Notably, somereligious faiths prohibit their members from communicating withpeople from other religions. The distance and the mode ofcommunication are other factors that can inhibit effectivecommunication. Face to face communication is said to be the mostefficient since the responses can be obtained immediately.
Communication with God can be affected by the fact that the mode ofcommunication is the one that the two parties do not see each other.Oftentimes, God does not respond to prayers immediately because ofthe form of communication, and this affects the effectiveness of theprayers (Geisler & Nix, 2014). It is also essential to state thatthe attitude of a person can affect communication with God.Individuals who are either angry or stressed over an issue might notcommunicate well with God. Further, humility is an important aspectin prayer since God only hears the prayers of the humble (Psalms10:17, New King James Version). It is essential to understand thatinteracting with God should be taken as a humbling experience sinceHe is the King over the entire World and heaven. Communication withGod relies on one’s faith that his or her prayers will be answered(Hebrew 11:6, New King James Version). As such, people with weakfaith will have difficulties communicating with God.
There is need to have sufficient faith while attempting to contactGod. It is important to believe that one’s answers will beanswered. Regarding the issue of attitude, it is important to ensurethat communication is done when both parties. However, the problem ofdistance could be solved between two parties, but not between anindividual and God.
