The construction period was 10 months.Premier Zhou launched the construction in August 1958 and dedicatedthe design principle to the Chinese people. The construction involvedapproximately 30,000 people. The majority of the labor force werecommunist volunteers. 7,000 individuals were first-rate techniciansfrom at least 20 Chinese provinces. The building is used forimportant political and diplomatic events. Therefore, it is animportant symbol of the Chinese nation. It has architecturalinfluences from China and other Asian and Western nations.
Thehall can accommodate 10,000 parliament representatives and 5,000guests at the same time. The ancillary rooms are identified byregional names of the Chinese provinces. The decorations of theancillary rooms are also done using local designs and styles. Manypeople are impressed by the towering hall and the symbolism of thearchitectural design to the political leadership and people of China.The roof has a big star that is red in color. The star design issymbolic because it describes the myth that China is the center ofthe communist galaxy. The Great Hall of the People is located next toother landmark sites for example, the Museum of Chinese History, theTiananmen Square, and the Museum of Chinese Revolution.1
Thehall has been renovated several times in the last four decades. Therenovations have generated more architectural creativity and wisdom.The peculiar architectural style has remained constant however,artistic charm features have been added to demonstrate thescientific, social, political, and economic achievements of thePeoples’ Republic of China.
