Discussionon Muscle Memory

Muscle memoryrefers to a kind of movement that makes the muscles to be habituatedover time (MindEdge, 2015). At first, the muscles are unable tooperate but after regular exercise, they end up being developed andused up, and one can carry an exercise without straining. The essaywill discuss the muscle memory with the aid of an example.

Muscle memory isestablished through the development of neural pathways. The channelsgive the muscles a sense of memory as one continues to practice. Theneural passes a message to the brain, and an individual is in aposition to do the activity without strain (MindEdge, 2015). Musclememory is common to all human beings, but it occurs in differentways. An example of a muscle memory that has happened in my life isplaying the piano while practicing a song. At the first time oftraining, I was performing so poorly. I kept on practicing until Istarted mastering the keys of the piano. I could sing one stanza at atime to make sure that I learn it well. The more I practiced playingpiano, the more I improved my skills in playing the piano. Theprocess concurs with the saying that “practice makes perfect.”The skills developed with time and I could play the piano withoutlooking at the keys. The fingers had memorized the position of thekeys, and I could even play the piano without having to think aboutthe movements. The neurons send a signal to the muscles and commandthem to play the piano without having to look at the keys (Muscolino,2012).

Memory musclemakes one carry out activities with ease. The person will not haveto struggle in making the movement as the muscles are used to thechange. The muscle memory has a great significance in our lives asit can determine our success or failure in our doings (Muscolino,2012). The success of the muscle memory should be based on theexcellence of the quantity. A person who is training to play pianofor instance can do it successfully if he or she masters it well. Themore personal practices, the more he or she improves. The perfectionof any activity comes because of practicing well. If one learns thewrong way, the muscles will memorize the bad thing, and with time, itwill be hard to unlearn the skills. Once the muscles have learned thewrong way, then the outcome will be a failure. For instance, if Ipracticed piano in the wrong way, my muscles could have mastered thewrong thing. Whenever I play the piano, people would notice that I amdoing it in the wrong way. Unlearning mistakes to learn the correctskills of playing the piano will be difficult as the muscles havememorized the mistakes.

In conclusion, muscle memory makes an individuals practice things without straining. The ability to do things with ease is due to the continuous practice. The message is passed to the muscles through the neural pathwaysthus stimulating the movement of the muscles. The muscles memory candetermine our success as well as failure. It all depends on how themuscles have mastered the skills. Thus, once practicing to do a newthing, we should be keen to practice the right things. Learning theskills in the wrong way can make one be a failure as it was difficultto unlearn them.
