Thelandscaping industry has undergone technological changes that haveseen the adoption of drone technology in capturing high end imagesand collecting relevant data for the industry. Drones have beendescribed as game changer tools that have enabled businesses achieveefficiencies and accuracy in results that are generated as comparedto humans. They offer better business benefits since they areun-manned and operated remotely with computer programs or radiofrequencies. However, like any other technology there are safetyrisks that are associated with their increased use in the landscapingindustry. The risks are both business and operation based thusaffecting the industry and the public at large. This essay recommendsthat drones are indeed game changer tools that can be used to achievecompetitive advantage and business efficiencies. The risks associatedwith the technology can be mitigated enabling the industry to reapthe benefits associated with the technology. Therefore, thelandscaping industry can adopt drone technology to increaseorganizational benefits.

Landscapingis based on activities that modify visible features on land to makethem appear better or take a form that looks appealing to the owner.The industry has been undergoing technological revolutions withdevelopment of new technologies that have shifted businessoperations. The rise of drones in the industry has changed businessactivities to focus on high efficiency levels. Drones are unmannedaircraft or vehicles that operate like robots in the human world.They are remotely controlled from a specific location or can usesoftware controlled plans embedded in the system with onboard sensorsand GPS. This essay discusses the role of drone technology in thelandscaping industry. It is based on an analysis of both the benefitsand risks associated with the technology to determine whether thetechnology has greater benefits to the industry.
Dronesare unmanned aerial vehicles with no pilot on board they arecontrolled autonomously through computer programs or an individual onthe ground. The technology is used for taking photographs, videos andimages of locations that need landscaping. The drone has severalfeatures like Gimbals& Tilt Control for capturing aerial images, smart phoneapplication to feature ground station function, range extender UAVtechnology that offers wireless communication to the controller up toa distance of five kilometers and firmware and flight assistant portfor communication control[ CITATION Flo15 l 1033 ].With the above features drones can easily execute business functionslike collecting data, inspecting areas and surveying potential sites. To function clearly, latest drones have flight intelligent systemsfor easy control even during network and system failures.
Initiallydrones were associated with the military for intelligence gatheringor as weapons but later spread to almost all industries (Dunbabin &Marques, 2012). A 2016 business intelligence report revealed thatthey are widely used in different industries including thelandscaping industry. Drones are used by landscaping companies tocapture overhead images by taking an environment from above or threedimension images. This game changer tool allows capturing ofcontinuous images that allow continuous images to be captured[ CITATION Gui16 l 1033 ].The unmanned aircraftallow capturing of high-end images that cannot be captured on theground and thus giving landscapers a better view of the environmentas they approach their work.

GPS coordinates arecritical to operationsince the drone.
Thetechnology has been highly utilized in the landscaping industry sinceit increases efficiency and reduces time taken for surveying tasks.When surveys are carried out using the unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) or drones the landscaper may use a very short time like twentyminutes as compared to surveying the sight manually. The unmannedaerial vehicles (UAVs) will deliver aerial three dimension imagesthat give a clear view of the ground as compared to two-dimensionalimages that are captured individually. Increased efficiency is theconcept behind drone technology. The user achieves results and at thesame time protects the security of staff since they are involvedremotely in controlling of the drone. The difference between dronesand humans is that they are guided by an advanced vision capabilitythat enables them track and relay three-dimensional images of thesight that is being analyzed[ CITATION Kak15 l 1033 ].Controlis easy since they use fixed wing -Unicorn from ProcerusTechnologieswhich are controlled through software. For example, humans may not capture decimal pointsbeyond three while drones can capture up to eight decimal placeswhich increase accuracy. Therefore we are experiencing the era of drones where developments inthe landscape industry will shape the way landscaping activities arecarried out.

Since theinformation that the drone carries is linked to the server of acompany. It becomes easy to hack the system of an organization andtamper with critical information. Hackers only require a code fromthe drone that can allow them access the mains server in theorganization to access critical information.
Privacyissues have been raised over the presence of drones in the publicsphere and the risks that the public faces. Since drones weighbetween two to fifty-five pounds depending on the nature of work thatthey do, they pose public insecurity when they fly over buildings andpublic places. When they malfunction and crash in public places, theycan cause greater risks and injuries to the public. Since they areun-manned and operated remotely is a greater risk with little controlon them by the operator when they crush. On the other hand, thepublic can also disable drones that may be flying too close to themor any interference can cause them to crash and harm the public.

If they also fly too close to large aircraft,it becomes difficult to control the aircraft from the radar. Research has shown that drones interfere with aircraft coordinationwith cases like fire fighting in California being stopped when droneswere spotted within the vicinity. Itis estimated that by the end of 2016, United States will be havingmore than 600,000rons that will be utilized in the business field.The numbers are set to increase further by 2020 which poses risks tothe environment and other flight related technologies like aircraft.
Theincreased nature of drones in commercial sector has sparkedcomplaints and concerns from privacy standpoints. Despite the factthat drones can fly in more insecure locations and collect relevantinformation that humans cannot access, control issues have beenraised as the major concerns over collisions and loss of control. TheGPS system that the drone uses affects the communication radar ofaero planes when they fly close to the ground. Sometimes they haveflown to longer distances thus going out of sight of the operatorwhich increase the risk of collision[ CITATION Gal16 l 1033 ].Regulations have been set up to ensure that the operating pilotensures that the drone does not fly out of sight and remain close tothe remote pilot in command for clear vision without using any otherdevice like corrective lenses. Theseprivacy concerns have raised collision concerns with manned aircraftwhich pose a greater risk to human life.
Lackof international regulations on the use of drones is a primaryconcern for all businesses that want to use drone technology. Theyhave not been regulated internationally, regionally and locally todetermine how they are operated within the business environment.There is need for regulation to ensure that the technology meets therequired standards and the ones that are allowed to fly in the airmeet standards that provide safety for all parties that are involved.This will reduce risks that are attributed to accident and possiblefailures of the device s when in the air[ CITATION Flo15 l 1033 ].Global aviation network and standards need to be applied to dronetechnology to increase safety. Training standards also have to applyon drone pilots just like aircraftwork in different regions.
Thelast risk that is offered by drones is lack of clear insurance forthe technology. The available insurance plans are not comprehensivebut cover specific parts like physical damage, liability, productliability, commercial general liability and non-owned aviationliability[ CITATION May16 l 1033 ].Since use of drones is slowly increasing, business risks alsoincrease and thus the need for a comprehensive insurance that cancover all risks that arise from the technology. Insuranceorganizations need to focus on covering all the available insuranceneeds within a business environment.
Dronetechnology is increasingly becoming common in many industries withseveral organizations having plans to utilize the advantages thatthis technology brings. They have the potential to solve problems inseveral industries are at the same time increase efficiency withreduced costs in the future. There are possibilities that largerdrones will be designed and utilized more in the environment and thusthe need to regulate through passing laws that guide and regulatesuch Technologies. Zurich Canada (2016) suggests that laws will helpto mitigate business risks that are associated with the technologyand at the same time seek to protect third parties that may beaffected by the risk that the technology brings. Despite the factthat few drone-related cases have been reported and that themagnitude of the accident is low, regulations will protectpedestrians and civilians who may not be aware of the risks that suchtechnology can put on them.
Technologyis playing a big role in the success of businesses within anyindustry. The landscaping industry is undergoing tremendous changesdue to the ever-changing nature of technology. This has increasedefficiency in the industry and created competitive advantage toorganizations. Despite the risks that are associated with the use ofdrones in the industry. It is evident that drones can be used tocreate completive advantage to the organization and improve businessprocesses. The risk associated with drones can be mitigated to reducethe effects that a business may suffer as a result of using thetechnology. Therefore, drones offer a new competitive advantage thatlandscaping industries can tap and use to develop businesscompetencies in an ever-changing business environment. Landscapingbusinesses can adopt drone technology as a way of achievingcompetitive advantage, increasing accuracy in data collection,efficiency and higher output levels due to the ability of drones tostay in the field longer.
