EdgarAllan Poe was a famous poetry and short story writer, born in Bostonin the year 1809. His parents were both professional writers, butthey died when he was at the age of three. John and Frances Allan whowere tobacco exporters raised Poe in Richmond, Virginia. Poe went toboarding schools, excelled academically and managed to joinUniversity at the expense of his guardian. In his university life, hebecomes financially challenged and forced to leave the collegebecause of debts. He thus moved to Boston where he was born and begunto compose a collection of poems.

Thesisstatement:The writings of got significantly influenced by hispersonal life experience.

Thewriter was passionate in his work of composing poems and shortstories. The people who brought him up and provided his school feeswere business farmers. He was thus expected to join and carry on afamily business, but rather he devoted himself to writings. Edgar Poegambled the money that Allan’s would give him when he was atschool, and this brought him to conflict with his fosters (Poe6).He published his poems at the back of Allan’s business magazines.He became famous and earned the great honor from his readers whorecognized him as a father of detective stories because he composedcreative writings. The life of Poe was full of mystery and heartbreaks. He returned to his home only to find that his neighbor and afiancé got engaged with someone else. Later he married his cousinwho was thirteen to fourteen years old. Poe’s cousin inspired andmotivated him to continue as an author, and this made him developrelationship interest from such a loving cousin.

HowPoe’s life become reflected in his writing

Poecomposed emotional stories, and this reflected his depressing life.He was brought up in Allan’s family, away from his siblings and hisdead parents. Later he experienced the rest of his family die. Forinstance, he grieved after the death of beloved wife, Virginia. Healso got faced with health challenges which affected him financialwise. The dark events that revolved around Poe’s life made himdevelop a style of writing that captivated his readers. For instance,in his story, the Masque of the Red Death, tell about a dangerousdisease outbreak that subjected patients to quarantine and alienationfrom others. The outbreak as described in this story was a blackplague which haunted individuals, called Red Death. Poe describesthis disease in his story and reflects an illness that killed hisparents, tuberculosis. Poe’s wife, his mother and a foster motherwhom he loved, died of disease.

Theauthor experienced deaths of loved people like the foster mother andhis wife. Virginia, his wife, was beautiful but died of an illness atan early age. Poe’s stories and poems have revealed characters thatdied in a similar fate of dear people close to him. Young andbeautiful women die in Poe’s work, for instance, in Annabel Lee,the fall of the House of Usher and the Oval portrait (Poe4).Thus, the writings of Poe have storylines connecting his normal life.

Nearthe end of Poe’s life, he became an alcoholic due to depression andloneliness from losing loved ones. He got drunk heavily and made hislife go spiral. At this moment, he wrote stories depicting drunkardcharacters. For example, in The Black Cat which was a writing workpublished before his death, narrates a story of a person who brutallyattacked his cat under the influence of alcohol (Lawrence 43)? Thestories have a reflection of Poe’s behavior, and we get tounderstand the kind of a person he was. The cruel events whichoccurred in Poe’s life had a significant effect on his work asdepicted in his poems and short stories.

Otherfamous works that reflect personal experiences of Poe

Poewas a forerunner of an art movement called Art for Art’s Sake. Hisinterest in venturing in writings exposed him to invent new styleswhich attributed to failure or success of his work. By then, earliercritics based the books being on moral ideologies, but instead, Poeopted to fix himself on new writing styles such as inspiration ofimaginable contents and use of commanding language. Perhaps it is inhis new form of techniques that made readers establish his work andaltered the direction of modern literature. His artistic transactionaccounts much of Poe’s importance in research culture.

Theauthor was once in a successful military cadet but received adismissal due to a failure of settling payments. Additionally, he hadattended best schools which made him excel academically. Again, hewas forced to leave because of inadequate financial support from JohnAllan who could not adopt him legally ass his son. The exposure hegained from schools and in the military group gave him hope toadvance with his writings. Having received no support, he thuscommitted himself to excel in his articles also (McAlister 471). Thefate behind his life failures motivated his desires to proceed inwritings. Through his hardship, he emerged a successful author andreceived recognitions. For instance, some of Poe’s short stories,like the MS. Found in a Bottle won him a cash prize.

HowPoe’s background or beliefs influenced short stories, poems orplays.

Acontribution to Poe’s writings was the approach methods of being acritic and an original author who employed life contemporaries as towhat he believed. During his first editing, there were governingrules where authors had to base their context as per the Frenchliterature. However, out of creativity, Poe made his writing styleswhich he composed poems and stories (McAlister472.) He believed inthe idea of employing aesthetic ideas to add value to literature,which he referred to as the Heresy of the Didactic. Other styles ofwriting that Poe used include imaginations and beliefs of existencepowers such as demons.

Thebackground encounters of Poe added some impact to his writings. Forexample, he experienced beauty, emotions of loving and losing(Lawrence 43). Thus, the exposure made him compose poems like ToHelen, Lenore and The Raven. The piece of this poetry work isnarrated by a character who lamented the death of his loved ones. TheLenore illustrates ways in which dead people get remembered, ToHelen, referred a beautiful woman in the eyes of the narrator (Poe21).In the Raven, the author reveals his aesthetic ideals which show usthe connection between his writings and the loss of his loved woman.

Conclusion

Inconclusion, Poe emerged from a sad raising history challenged withevents of grief. First, his parents died, he got separated from hissiblings, dropped out of school as a result of financial issues andlost his wife. The series of unfortunate occasions in his lifebrought him an idea of the communication platform, to communicatethrough writings. In his life, Poe was destined in author`s journey,and what he went through gave him content to compose. His uniquestyle of writing, he earned my followers of his materials in the formof play, short stories, and poetry.
