Global Warming and Climate Change
GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE 5
There is no doubt that climate change and global warming are realaspects due to the increasingly visible effects. The emission ofgreenhouse gasses into the atmosphere by the various human activitieshave led to significant changes in temperature levels across theworld. It is essential to note that numerous human activities dependon weather patterns such as agriculture (Gore, 2016). Effects ofglobal warming and climate change range from environmental, economic,to health issues. Almost every community across the world has beenaffected in one way or the other by global warming.
Thesis: Climate change and global warming has had and continues toaffect communities and families across the world and if people willnot take the necessary preparation measures, they are likely tosuffer massive losses.
One of the ways through which communities are affected by globalwarming is through extreme heat waves that have killed thousands ofpeople. For instance, in India, there were numerous deaths in 2016owing to the high temperatures. This increase in temperatures hasbeen blamed on global warming. Another notable effect is thedisplacement of people from the coastlines due to flooding (Maslin,2014). Rising sea temperatures have led to the melting of ice andincreased water volumes that flood the shores. Global warming andclimate change have also led to increased respiratory diseases suchas asthma due to the polluted air. Lastly, due to the ever changingamount of rainfall, agricultural production has been severelyaffected and hence food production.
In my community, the effects of global warming and climate changehave been eminent. Agricultural production of food has drasticallyreduced since the climatic patterns have totally changed and hardtimes are expected in future (Maslin, 2014). Further, air pollutionis projected to cause numerous cases of respiratory infections suchas asthma. It is also essential to state that there can be incidencesof extreme flooding due to heavy precipitation resulting from globalwarming. Members of the family are also likely to suffer fromrespiratory infections due to air pollution. Due to the expectedheavy downpours, family members could be forced out of their homesdue to flooding.
My community has had many challenges in the management of itsresources such as water, land, housing, and agricultural products inthe face of the threat global warming and climate change. Extremetemperatures are drying up some of the water sources, and thecommunity has little it can do protect this valuable resources (Gore,2016). Flooding affects the productivity of land of the agriculturalproduction is severely affected hence posing an enormous challenge tothe community. Further, flooding has caused displacements, and thishas posed to the community.
The family is faced with the challenge of promoting agriculturalproduction in the face of climate change threats. Further, the familyhas had to deal with the problem of preserving water resources thatare drying up due to prolonged dry spells. The trees in the compoundare also likely to bud to changes in climate. The family has alsobeen forced to incur massive losses in the diagnosis of respiratoryailments due to the effects of air pollution.
There are various steps that the community and the family can taketo prepare for the consequences of global warming and climate change. For example, the community and the family can prepare for drought andwater shortage through using water efficiently and repairing any pipeleakages that might be leading to water wastage (Larkin, 2015). It isalso important to have the necessary equipment in the house toregulate the temperatures once the heat waves arrive. In orderefficiently deal with flooding, there is need to make sure that thewaterways and pipes and regularly maintained and repaired. Debrisshould be cleared, and the necessary emergency plans should be put inplace including insurance covers.
While concluding, it is evident that the effects of global warmingand climate change are severe to both the community and the world.Floods, extreme heat waves, and droughts are common across the worlddue to changes in temperature. Numerous resources are at risk due toglobal warming and climate change. It is important that the communityand the family are prepared for the effects that are associated withthese two aspects.
