PresidentDonald Trump has waged war on immigrants terming them dangerous and adrain on the United States’ economy which is unfair as some arehardworking individuals looking for an opportunity to better theirlives. This paper aims to expound on the issue of immigration inAmerica.
is a global crisis that has seen many of the refugees get to theUnited States in search of better living standards. Trump hasthreatened to deport close to 11 Million immigrants and ban Syrianrefugees whom he accuses of stifling local resources, bringing indrugs and crime. He has denounced immigrants terming them aslow-skilled workers with less education who take up workplaces ofAmericans. It is wrong to judge every immigrant as some are merelylooking for opportunities to thrive. They start from meager jobshoping to grow, if they hear of opportunities elsewhere, they makethe journey to those places and try any job all in the hope ofbecoming successful. The effects of immigration are both positive andnegative. They might infiltrate the employment opportunities ofAmericans and bring about a security concern such as terrorism thatthreatens peace in America. However, they are relevant to the economyas they bring with them skills and labor that aids in economicdevelopment. They are assimilated into the America culture thusenriching it, some intermarry and bear children who turn out to beimportant people in society (Kristof, 2017).
Insummary, it is hard to accept the fact that almost everyone inAmerica has an immigrant origin and an example can be given ofTrump’s grandfather who found a livelihood in America. BecauseAmerica’s history is based on immigrants, we should not be quick tojudge and characterize them. It would be hypocritical to shun thisvice when America’s success story is attributed to immigration.
