Legalization of Marijuana
Legalizationof Marijuana
Inthe contemporary world, the use of marijuana has increased amongstthe teens and the youths. Its use has been witnessed to be highdespite being illegalized. Approximately, eight states in Americahave legalized the use of marijuana while the other states are stillin a dilemma of whether they should legalize the consumption ofmarijuana. As per my opinions, I feel that the utilization ofmarijuana should fully be legalized in the United States. The essaywill support the legalization of marijuana in the United States usingfacts and ideas.
Despitethe fact that marijuana is prohibited in the United States, itremains among the commonly utilized drugs. As per the Americanstatistics, more than 60 million Americans have used marijuana formore than 20 years (Joffe & Samuel 635). Everybody aspires tolive a long life of good health. From the statistics, we can assumethat the use of marijuana will end one day but with its use for themedical purpose can be difficult. Some countries such as Californiaare fighting to legalize growing and use of marijuana. The drug hasbeen found useful as it can be applied for the medical purpose ofpeople who have cancer, aids, and migraines among others. Thedistribution of marijuana is for both medical and non-medicalpurposes.
Peoplethink that legalization of marijuana will cause more harm than good. There are some assumptions that the use marijuana will lead toincreased level of crime and violence (Choo, Esther K., et al. 164).Some individuals think that marijuana is more expensive than alcoholand cigarettes. Legalization of marijuana, in this case, is for themedical purpose and the benefits that accrue from the use of thedrug. A study carried by Joffe and Samuel proof that marijuana couldbe utilized as a drug. The results showed that the drug had manyuses. Marijuana was first used as a medicine in China. The hempcompound can be utilized as an analgesic for the surgical patients. The compound has several other uses such as cleaning the blood, clearing unrests, calming the nerves, relieving asthma among others. The leaves can be dried and boiled to treat migraines.
Focusingon the firsts flag of America, it had the drawing of hemp that wasused for medical purpose in the past. Over time, marijuana has beenused for the medical purpose, and it can as well be utilized in thecontemporary world. With the increasing health, issues such as bodyweight, people can use the leaves of Cannabis sativa to burn the fatsin the body thus preventing obesity. The legalization of cannabisSativa would also help in building the economy. Once marijuana islegalized, the federal and the state government will grow revenuesfrom taxes imposed on the drugs. The income raised from the taxes canbe used in developing other sectors of the economy. Legalization ofCannabis sativa will reduce the cost incurred by the government inarresting and prosecuting the drug dealers and users of the drug. Thenumber of people arrested due to drug issues will reduce in the cell, and that will result in reduced expenses in the cells.
Inconclusion, if marijuana is legalized, the health of the people willbe enhanced, as the core reason is the medical purpose. On the otherhand, the government will grow its economy, as it will obtainrevenues through taxation while reducing the costs incurred inmonitoring drug use.
