MiddleSexes-Redefining He and She

MiddleSexes-Redefining He and She is a 2005 movie that examines the issueof gender and the challenges experienced by the persons affected bythe definition of the term. Based on the movie, it is apparent thatsexual identity can be regarded as natural since it is not determinedby people’s choices. Throughout the film, transgender and intersexindividuals have been depicted. Moreover, the film highlights thebiological explanation of differences existing between genders. Thereis a tendency for a person to emulate behaviors that the societyconsiders to be of the opposite sex. For instance, in the movie, there is a character named Noah who prefers to engage in behaviorsthat portray him like a girl. Noah dresses like girls and isinterested in girls’ activities such as dancing rather thanboy-like behaviors such as playing video games. Although the familytries to discourage him, reverts to behaving like a girl (TyneTrans,2013).

Fromthe film, the viewer can understand the differences in the perceptionof the society regarding transgender and intersexual persons. Moreover, it is possible to understand that the views of Americansare different from those of other parts of the world such as India.Persons who struggle with sexual identity face a lot of strugglessince they are stigmatized by the society. Persons viewed to bestruggling between the male and female gender are oppressed andstigmatized by society. The film can be credited for interviewingindividuals who have been affected by gender stereotyping (TyneTrans,2013). Personal testimony from individuals who have been victims ofgender discrimination enables the audience to understand thesignificance of the film. As has been demonstrated in the video, thesociety does not embrace transgender persons. Most of them have beensubjected to violent attacks, some of which lead to deaths orpermanent physical injury.
