Theissue I want to address in the Hollywoodfilmis about 21st-centuryslavery. Slavery is mostly associated with past horrible system inwhich an influential person would use his or her power to treat otherpeople as property. Although there have been revolutions againstslavery since the 19th century, the war is certainly not yet won withthe emergence of modern slavery. People take advantage of thedestitute, weak or even disadvantaged to satisfy their demands. Therehas been some legislation in many countries, which defends humanrights, but they still do not have the mechanism to protect thisliberty.
In1852, Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote a play known as “Uncle Tom’sCabin” that illustrated the face of slavery at that time (Meer,2015). She used her imaginative power to create fictitious charactersand events to show the reality. In the past, slaves would work inplantations under deplorable conditions and attend to their masters. They were sometimes beaten to death with no one to defend theirrights. In the 21st century, there are still many cases of forcedlabor and sex slavery.
Thedemand for cheap labor in the manufacturing and construction sectorhas facilitated human trafficking. At the same time, legalprostitution creates an avenue of using people who are vulnerablebecause of poverty. Almostall big cities such as Hollywood in the world have either legal orillegal prostitution going on.Human trafficking is further encouraged with the demand of sexworkers. These people often get sick because of the conditions theyare subject to or suffer from post-traumatic stress disorders. Oncethey become weak and can no longer work, they are avoided and leftwith no medication.
Tonyand Christine are childhood friends who have their dreams ofproceeding with their education cutshort because their families cannot afford paying school fees.Coming from a Christian family, they wanted to get a better life butthrough a deserved earning. One day, they meet Mr. Harry who is saidto have a connection with influential people andhas helped others to secure well-paying job.Mr. Harry tells them to prepare for a long journey that would changetheir life forever. By this time, Tony was 18 years old whileChristine was 16 years old. They take off to thecity. On arrival, they meet some three gentlemen they have never metbefore. They are handed over to these people who reassures them thatthey position of employment has already been booked. Mr. Harryinforms them that he has some unfinished business and would meet themonce they get to the workplace.
Theyspend at a Hollywood hotel that night, and the next morning Tonyfound himself without Christine. On questioning, he is told that sheis in safe hands. Tony is taken to work under forced labor at thefactory while Christine is taken at a club. At the plant, the workingconditions are deplorable, but Tony stays focused and does not losehope of getting back at home. Workers are not allowed to walk beyondthe servant quarters, listen to the news, or even read newspapers, sothey do not know what is happened in the outside world.
After15 years, because of Tony`s hard work, he is recognized by hismasters and promoted to be a supervisor of other fellow workers thisgives him the opportunityto walk past the servant quarters during weekends. After all theseyears, he had lost hope of ever meeting Christine again. He hadstarted drinking to relieve himself from stressful conditions at theworkplace. At one of the clubs he had never visited before, he sees alady whom he recognizes as Christine. She is a drunk and does notunderstand herself. She had become weak because of heavy drinking.Getting to talk to her was a problem because she was on drugs all thetime this was the last time Tony saw her alive. That same night, sheget killed alongsideother people by drug peddlers in a gun fight at the club. About 40individuals killed attracts the attention of the government. Uponinvestigation, the criminals get arrested and face criminal charges.Detectives investigate the people affected and find that theyare subjected to sexual work against their will. They also believe that some people have been employed under forcefullabor in a factory. All the slaves are freed and allowed to travelback to their respective homes this is how Tony regains his freedom.
Themain characters are Tony who has a dream of securing an employmentthrough Mr. Harry but ends up working a factory under deplorableconditions Christine, A young woman who decides to leave his homecountry in the company of a male friend with the hope of getting ajob. She ends up becoming a sex worker addicted to all sorts ofdrugs. She is later killed by drug peddlers and Mr. Harry who claimsto assist young people secure well-paying job yet he is involved inhuman trafficking. He gets arrested during the investigation of theincident at the club.
Howthe Movie Will Look Like
Itis going to be a dark and a little more stylistics. The club willhave lights of different colors with no bright illumination toreflect the dark events that take place inside. The factory will be adirty place. Factory workers will be wearing torn clothes to indicatetheir suffering. At the club, the ladies will be dress to attractmen.
Tobe able to produce a movie that would be entertaining, inputs fromcinematographers, costume designers, storyboard artists, anddirectors are needed. The look of the actors required will be givenconsideration. Thus, various casting agents will be consulted becausethey are aware of all the performers who can fit a particular script. After finding different players, the audition will be performed. Itwill be carried out in a well air conditioned area to make sure thatthe players are comfortable. Tea and coffee will be provided. Theauditions will be filmed in cases the actors will allow it. At thisstage, the aspiring actors will be informed of the projectexpectations and the benefits if they are cast.
WhoI Might Choose to Direct
Iwill pick Tony. He is the main character and every actions heperforms is critical to the theme of the movie. I would want to makesure that the script is followed to the latter.
Filmthat has inspired the Creation of this Movie
UncleTom`s Cabin written by Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1852 has influencedthe development of this film (Meer, 2015). Astonished by how she wasable to reflect her ideas about anti-slavery through the documentary, this forms the background about human trafficking movie in the 21stslavery.
