Problem Statement The hospice nurses provide patients with services that are palliative in nature in different health care facilities, such as nursing homes, patient homes, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. The Hospice agency should, therefore, ensure that the hospice nurses have access to effective and proper orientation that introduce them to the palliative care services, reviewing nursing skills, mentoring and evaluates their performance in the field, but also ensures that hospice nurses receive adequate training, motivation and support. The patient and families served by hospice required specialized care and competent professionals. Adequate training to the hospice nurses ensures that they are performing the duties showing the necessary knowledge, experience and skills required for the practice. To help employees to become successful, and for agencies to retain those who are, employees must have an adequate opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to work within a new work environment. |
Purpose Statement To develop a new set of interactive orientation that includes hospice theory, agencies protocols and nursing documentation but also includes hospice best practices, grief and loss, nursing support and competency skills check. |

Expected Outcomes & Evaluation Nurses receive specialized training on palliative care, but there is always a disparity between the knowledge gained, and how they administer medical care to patients with acute illnesses and caring for dying patients. Thus, in addition to the training the nurses receive, it is paramount for them to receive proper job orientation. If they are not inducted to the actual work expected of them, there is a likelihood that the patients in dire need of care will fail to receive quality services, due to lack in orientation to the palliatives nurses regarding his roles and necessary skills to provides services, orientation process and career recognition can help reduce employee turnover |
