Paintingis one of the skills that have been in existence for a very longtime. it has a long history because it has been in practice in nearlyall the cultures across the globe. In China, for instance, paininghas been used as a tool of reflecting the cultural traditions of thepeople. This paper compares and contrasts Terra Cotta Figure of aCivil Servant and Terra Cotta Figure of an Acrobat. These arepaintings that were made during Emperor Qin Shihuang`s dynasty.
Thetwo paintings share some similarities. First, the two paintingsappear to be real. They are life-size artworks that depict an actualimage of human beings. The people depicted in the paintings arestanding in a normal upright position. Their height and shape areproportionate and look like real men. However, on its part, theacrobat seems to be a very strong person who has lots of muscles inhis hands. This is an accurate presentation of an acrobat who isknown to be a masculine individual. The other similarity betweenthese artworks is that they incorporated the use of elements of artsuch as coloring. A thorough look at the images proves that theobjects were painted using a variety of colors. For example, thecivil officer was made using a combination of black, white and greycolors. The same can be said of the acrobat who was prominentlypainted using brighter hues. On the other hand, the images look realand proportional because of a careful use of the element of shape andspace. This is a clear proof that the artists who worked on thesepaintings were skilled. The excellent painting skills possessed bythe artists made them to produce proportionate paintings. The use ofthe element of coloring, shape, and space made the objects to be realand lively.
Despitethese similarities, the two paintings share a lot of differences intheir outlook. In the first place, the acrobat and civil officerhave different sizes. Their heights are not similar because they aredifferent personalities. Besides, the acrobat and civil officer donot share a physical outlook and physique. The acrobat appears to bemore attentive than the civil officer. At the same time, the kind ofdressing style used by the two individuals is not similar. This is aclear proof that each of the artworks was made to depict differentcultural values and phenomena amongst the community(Phoebe, 2014).The appearance of the acrobat shows that such people were bold andconfident in whatever they were doing. However, the composure of thecivil officer portrays him as a loyal and decent employee. This iswhy he was officially dressed in acceptable uniform.
Inconclusion, painting is one of the significant activities that wereused to preserve and transmit the Chinese culture. The way in whichthe acrobat and the civil officer were depicted in these paintingsshows how creative the artists were. The artworks share lots ofsimilarities and differences. Although each of these artworks wasmade to deliver a specific message to the audience, they are similarbecause each of them involved the use of coloring, shape, and size.At the same time, the artworks were relied upon to shed light oncertain cultural values.
