PERSONAL REFLECTION 3
Conflictis inevitable when two or more people interact, there is apossibility that they will disagree over an issue. When faced with aconflict, it is essential to come up with an appropriate strategy toensure that the disagreement does not escalate. Recently, I have beeninvolved in a conflict with one of my classmates when we worked on anassignment as a group. While working on the assignment, one of theteam members did not want to cooperate with the rest of us. Therewere various parts to be handled, and each member was assigned theirtask. When the deadline to submit the assignment was almost, thismember had not completed his part, and this angered the rest of us.To deal with the conflict, the member requested that we give him moretime to finish his role.
Asthe leader of the group, I solved the conflict by giving the task toother members as lateness in submission could have affected all of usnegatively. The outcome was good since the group managed to submitthe assignment on time. As a person who understands conflictresolution, the issue could have been avoided if we set an earlydeadline for each member to deliver their work. This way, thelast-minute rush occasioned by the failure of one member could havebeen avoided. One of the conflict resolution terms applicable in thedisagreement is affect displays. When the group met for the lastmeeting, most of the members seemed emotional, and this could be seenfrom the anger in their faces. Another term that related to theconflict is regulators. During our meeting, the group membersportrayed non-verbal cues that showed they agreed with the decisionto work on the task the other team member had failed to complete. Most of them nod their heads in agreement some interrupted me byraising their fingers to give their opinion on the matter.
Inconclusion, it is worth noting that conflict is common, especiallywhen there is an interaction involving several people. Individuals ina disagreement should develop appropriate mechanisms to come up witha solution. In the case of the conflict I encountered, I resolved tohave other members of the team assist one of us with the assignment. This solution seemed to work since the objectives of the group wereachieved and none of the members suffered.
