Thesupply of moldy sandwich and rotten fruits is caused by the sponsorsutilizing the money to do something else. The vendor together withthe supporters collaborated in deceiving the school that theirsupplies were fresh. Alternatively, they could have used the money tobuy the bad quality of food so that they can spend the raining amountfor their personal use. The vendor might have also lied about thenumber of children so that he could get an extra delivery which hesold to other people. He was taking advantage of the Government’sgenerosity for his gain. The vendor also lied about the opening dateto be 15th, and the actual one was 30th. He was benefiting from thestate by probably having another area where he was channeling themeals and snacks. He was keeping the inventory record as a surety wayof showing that indeed he was receiving the donations. It was a wayof proving to the government and school that their meal and snackswere in use.
Thesponsors were also smart in selecting the food suppliers. Theylowered their rates so that they could make the bids from the vendorsas in the long run they wanted the government’s money. The sponsorcollaborated with the suppliers that were paid to stay silent. Thebad meal and snack given to the children could have been remains ofother days. He might have been selling the fresh ones and giving theremains to children. Then this way he was covering his tracks inproving to people watching that the children were receiving the mealand snacks. The school summer program might not be aware of theintentions of the sponsors but were victims.
Itis always good for supporters to follow up on their donations byfrequently visiting the summer camp program to ensure that theirdonations are utilized in the proper way. In turn, it will reducediscrepancy cases brought about by disloyal people. As the generalinspector, I would take action against the state education departmentfor not following up with the vendor in ensuring that he was doingthe right thing. His actions might tarnish the name of theorganization which calls for stunt actions against him. It is alsoadvisable for the sponsors to have their records as they make thedonations to ensure that they have a copy of their activities(Niemi, Dyck, & Niemi, 2013).It will act as evidence in cases of inconsistency, and slow serve asproof.
Sincemany sponsors take advantage of such opportunities as summer camps, the state should ensure that sponsors provide legal documents and athorough background check should be done on them. It will reducecases of sponsors stealing from the government in the name ofchildren. Once there are strict rules against these people, they willfear to engage in such activities again.
Summercamps should also have a health inspector who ensures that foodserved to the children is in good condition. The rotten food couldhave caused harm to the children. A close follows up is important tothe suppliers so as to ensure that the supply good quality food whichmight not harm the children. The inspector should compare the qualityof food and the amount spent so that there will be no issues of adiscrepancy.
