Reflectionon the Article: Who`s Got the Monkey?

In the artifact, the Monkey symbolizes a problem that faces the organization. Themonkey (problem) is passed to the manager. The manager sends back theproblem to the subordinate to solve it. The subordinate may have noskills in solving the problem, and thus they may end up consumingmost of their time. Those who try to handle the monkey have a higherchance of learning new skills. For instance, at the workplace, therecould be a shortage of the staff, and since nursing profession isdemanding, the workload is high. As the charge nurse, I always haveadmission coming on weekend and families visiting the patients. Thenurses are usually off duty and handling the admission and attendingthe families is left on my side. The monkey of attending the newadmission is on me, and this eventually slows my work down, as theresponsibility is enormous. In conclusion, the directors are entitledto take control of the subordinates’ time. The managers are alsosupposed to create time out of their schedule to look into the issuesthat the organization is facing. By so doing, the managers canincrease the team`s output.
