Reflective Journal Prompt
Running head 1
Thispaper gives a reflective journal of a board’s meeting in a certainschool. The attendance of the meeting was meant to increase myknowledge on governance structures within schools. Different schoolsuse different organizational and governance structures to performtheir tasks effectively.
Themeeting was conducted by a board of governors who are responsible foroverall operations of the school. It was meant to discuss allocationof funds for setting up a computer laboratory. Earlier, the board ofgovernors had laid a request to the state government about setting upa computer laboratory fully equipped. The request was considered andmoney disbursed in the school’s account for implementation andcompletion of the project. Members were given a chance to expresstheir opinions about location of the laboratory and computer suppliesthrough tenders. The secretary to the board (head teacher) recordedthe minutes for reference in the next meeting. Majority of the boardmembers suggested that the lab should be located near the staffroom. This was to ensure that teachers could access the lab at ease andthat students could be easily supervised and guided during computersessions. The project had a huge impact on students as computerscould give them an exposure of different programs run by computerswhich they might apply in future. It also implied that a computerspecialist should be hired to guide the students. The meeting was torepresent the interests of students and overall image of the school. As a teacher, it would be a great honor to work under such initiativeindividuals who are more concerned about the goodwill of the schoolrather than personal interests. It also came to my mind that schoolsgovernance should ensure that students learn new things and exposurein technical skills that might help them in future.
