Introductioninto the skill simulation laboratories was crucial to me as I cameacross real life hospital experience, which I have never encounteredbefore. Therefore, some of the important things that I came acrossinclude performance of the practical part of patient care, observation of the real patient wound care and considerations beforedealing with a patient.
Practicalpatient care was among the things that made my visit at thesimulation laboratory beneficial to me since I was able to performpractical work. As a result, I was able to learn some simulationskills and the easiest included offering verbal support to thepatients and preparing beds for them while at the same time providetheir necessities while they were in beds. Additionally, in the FoleySimulation Laboratory, our basic knowledge of anatomy was testedwhich included SQ injection of insulin syringes and administering ofIM and ID injections. Lastly, I was also able to improve myinteraction skills with the patient by helping a 90 years-old catchthe ball to assist her in mobility and coordination.
Accordingto Burton & Ludwig (2014), wound dressing is a critical activityin the nursing career. Since the nurse did wound in front of me inthe Sherbrook Rehab Facility, I was, therefore, able to capture theskills in an elaborate way. In addition, my confidence also improvedsince previously I could not look at bleeding wound directly but nowI could, Via the use of a moisturizing the gauze. Consequently, I wasable to get the reality of wound dressing.
Lastly,my experience at the simulation laboratory gave me an experience ofwhat to consider while taking care of the patients. I learned thatbefore performing nursing, it was important to educate them on theimportance of working. Besides, l learned that cultural preferencewas necessary while dealing with patients since they come fromdifferent backgrounds.
Inshort, my experience the simulation laboratory was very crucial inenhancing my practical experience. Besides, I was able to note theareas that I should improve upon such as the Foley CatheterInsertion, which seemed to be challenging. Therefore, my experienceat the lab offered me an excellent opportunity to learn andunderstand my weak areas.
