LiberalTeaching Approach

Accordingto Pellegrino, James and Mark Wilsonthe liberal teaching approach is the opposite of the punishmentrelated systems of education. The guidance approach under the liberalteaching method perceives the children neophytesare learning self-control and social skills as they grow. Theteacher, on the other hand, is regarded as the coach whose role inthe class is to teach and to assist the children in negotiatingpro-social behaviors as they learn how to live and work with theirpeers and constantly interact with the environment (Peterson,Stagg, et al.). In the occurrence of the childexhibiting behavior that is not pleasant the teacher comes in handyand has to help the child to think or formulate an alternative way ofbehaving while faced with a circumstance that made them exhibit thebad behavior.

Inmy observation, there are various correlations between the teacher`sclassroom practices and the liberal guidance approach. For instance,in the interview, I enquired from the teacher what would be theirreaction or how would they handle a situation where two children arefighting over a toy. The teacher`s response was that they would takethe children and try solving the problem amicably, show the childrenhow to react in future. Instead of taking the toy for both of themand putting it away, the teacher said he would give them alternativeson how to face the situation. The teacher`s approach does not onlysolve the problem at that moment in class, But it also helps explainmay more differences between the children in future. Similar to theliberal approach to such situations in class, the teacher’sapproach seeks to solve the problem without any form of punishmentand gives a chance to the two children to make their decision evenafter a confrontation. Important to note is the teacher takes intoaccount that they deal with the kids. Typically, the memory of childlimited since they are developing it, therefore, is the role of theteacher to remind the children on how to behave.

.Accordingto principle 1.2 of the National Association for theEducation of Young Children, teachers are required to care for andeducate the children in positive emotional and social environmentsthat are considered to be stimulating their cognitive and thatsupport each other’s language culture and family structure.According to the liberal approach of teaching, the teacher firsttakes the two children aside to create a favorable environment forboth of the children to learn what the teacher wants to communicate.That is because if the teacher corrected them in class, then it wouldnot be conducive since other children would be involved and thatwould negatively affect the delivery of the teachings on thatparticular matter to the warring children. The verdict is also leftwith the children in future when faced with a similar situation thisstimulates their cognitive. The approach of the teacher therefore, isin line with the code of conduct.
