The management of healthcareissues is impacted by the influence of the stakeholders. This paperaims to discuss the roles of the key players in the health sector.
Themacro level in the area of health comprises of different stakeholdersall of whom have varied objectives that guide their activities in theindustry. There is the possibility of conflicting goals among thestakeholders with the opportunity to certain roles being similar toeach other. The most prominent stakeholder is the government. Thegovernment has different institutions that are mandated to overseethe efficient running of the sector. The government has manyobjectives to fulfill which are aimed at providing quality healthcareto its citizens. One of the terms of the government is to ensureaffordability of health services to its people. It is also its dutyto ensure medical workers have access to quality training that isvital in imparting the required skills for efficient service delivery(Virtue, Chaussalet, and Kelly, 2013). Health facilities have to bewell equipped, a major factor in ensuring affordability and qualityin service dispensation. The government champions the realization ofthese objectives through its sublevels. The formulation of policiesis conducted by the central government, while the coordinationapproach is delegated to the state governments (Shi and Singh, 2015).
Thesecond category of stakeholders are healthcare administrators. Theirprimary objective is to ensure healthcare services are efficientlyprovided to the public, and they are obligated with making importantdecisions that would champion this cause. Healthcare providers relyon the directives given by the administrators. They work in closecollaboration with government institutions to guarantee the propermanagement of resources in the health sector.
Thirdly,there’s the public who are the biggest users of health services.The objectives of the public are very precise with their prioritiesbeing affordability and quality services. Income levels are variedamong different individuals hence the public has to ensure thattheir resources are well optimized to enable them access qualitycare. The constitution offers the right to quality healthcare, andthis role is realized through the government’s policies.
Fourthly,there are certain non-governmental organizations (NGOs) which haveprioritized in dealing with health matters within the community.Their primary objective is to complement the government’s effortthrough ensuring accessibility and affordability of health services.This is done by providing alternative resources, for instance,running parallel health facilities that ease pressure on governmentservices. Additionally, they educate the public to ensure they areinformed on different health aspects and aware of the servicesaccorded to them.
Thefifth group of stakeholders is the healthcare providers whose primaryobjective is to ensure patients receive quality services(Mosadeghrad, 2014). Mostly they include established healthorganizations managed by skilled medical personnel. Their aim is toimprove the healthcare services by utilizing the readily availableresources in making an impact on patients’ health. Their effortsare supplemented by the NGOs and the government.
Thesixth group for discussion is the healthcare insurers. Their basicrole is to ensure that the public has easy access to health services.Despite deploying limited resources to attain their objectives, thereare questionable instances whereby their roles conflict with those ofother stakeholders as they are also determined to make profits.
Insummary, it is evident that the healthcare sector relies on the inputof different stakeholders to ensure efficiency. Despite each havingtheir specific objectives, they all work to ensure smooth functioningof the health system. It is also prudent that all the stakeholderscoordinate if their activities are to be effective and efficient.
