Hamlet is a naïve young manwho had sworn to avenge his father`s death. His father`s ghost wouldappear to him regularly informing him that Claudius murdered him.Claudius was the king`s brother and became king after the death ofHamlet`s father (Gale, 2015).Hamlet has a tragic flaw that led to his demise. This entailed anurge to get evidence against his brother before he could act and hisprocrastination.
Hamlet had only one simpletask of avenging his father by killing his uncle, Claudius. Heconvinced himself it was not the right time to do it when he got anopportunity. In fact, he had many chances to kill his brother, but hewould always come up with a reason not to do it. During a play thatHamlet organizes re-enacting his father`s death, Claudius confesseshis crime. He goes on his knees and asks for forgiveness from theaudience (Gale, 2015).In this setting, Hamlet has the perfect opportunity to kill hisuncle, but his thoughts betray him. He decides that it is not theright time to kill Claudius because he is on his knees. Hamletbelieved that if he killed Claudius that day, he would not suffer inthe afterlife. His father`s ghost had informed Hamlet that he wassuffering in purgatory.
Hamlet was constantlysecond-guessing himself, and this led to his demise. Hamlet andLaertes duel and this leads to the death of Seven people includingHamlet. Laertes poisons the queen`s wine and poisons the weapon theyused in the fight. This weapon graces both the men and kills them,but before Hamlet dies, he forces the king to drink the poisoned wine(Gale, 2015). If Hamlethad been decisive, only one man would have died instead of Seven.
